Book Review: Teach Us To Want

One of the biggest perks for me about all the new relationships I’m forming through this writing gig is that I’m now receiving books–for free! And not just any books, but books written by women I’ve met in real life and admire. Jackpot! It’s a huge privilege and I’m honored to have the opportunity to share my thoughts with all of you.

Just so you know, I won’t ever waste your time by reviewing a book I don’t actually think you should read. I typically read a couple books a month, one fiction, one nonfiction. Anything that gets reviewed on here, whether I received the book free as a review copy or purchased myself, is something I felt so strongly about I just had to share. I’m not in the business of writing fluff or using reviews just to produce content.

In a crazy God-ordained Twitter conversation, I was actually asked to write this particular review of Jen Pollock Michel’s Teach Us To Want for Books and Culture. This is one of the exciting things I’ve been working on that I alluded to in my last post. Pretty much geeked-out over the whole thing. So very professional of me, right?!

You can check out the full review here: http://www.booksandculture.com/articles/webexclusives/2014/august/teach-us-to-want.html?paging=off

And here’s a link to purchase the book on Amazon (trust me): http://www.amazon.com/Teach-Us-Want-Longing-Ambition-ebook/dp/B00HUCPW2W/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1409410810&sr=1-1&keywords=teach+us+to+want

My other book reviews (more to come):

  1. I enjoyed your review of Teach Us to Want in Books and Culture and referenced it in my sermon Sunday–the part about your journals–great example of how strong desires can be, how they change, and how human they are. Thanks for a good review, excellent writing and good insights! I look forward to reading more.
